JUNE-AUG 2014


DAY 14-17 [ 6/18-29 ]
another dimension another dimension another dimension

DROP LOG ▹ A options take place late d14; B options take place early 15.
Fiona showed up on Ajna a screaming mess, but she was quick to get her bearings and move forward. The giant robot both helped and hurt proceedings, while the amazing flying boy mostly helped and the amazing screaming octopus mostly hurt. When she got to rendezvous point, she met a lot of people and screamed at them. Sometimes, she felt bad about screaming. Other times, less so. She eventually found her rover and intermittently played with her new blackglass tech and chatted with her new roomies.

DOWNTIME ▹ Sort of.
After fiddling with her blackglass and trying to get a hang of it, she decides to test the waters by bugging Garrus about inane shit. She also natters with crowns Dagger supreme monarch of Canada. After deciding that she could be of use by helping people out with their problems, she finds the person with the most problems in camp and fails to help them.

SUPPLY DROP ▹ Meet & greet.
Being on blue team, Fiona is assigned to distribute supplies at the drop, which she does with professional aplomb.


DAY 18-30 [ 6/30-8/8 ]

DOWNTIME ▹ Again.
Fiona talks to her new BFF Jack about God, the father, and the holy emotional issues batman. She thought you were relatively stable, dude. She also gets to know her rovermates, mostly in the light of being small-minded and contentious. Hey, stick with what you know. She also bugs Garrus again, and the conversation devolves into her haranguing him about the Turian definition of justice before feeling shitty about it and relenting. He'll probably never be able to get rid of her after this.

TRANSCEIVER SETUP ▹ Mind the frostbrood.
After sucking up to her superior, Fiona tries to set up the intergalactic bomb thingie with a minimum of incident, and ends up more successful than not. It's good to be a Gallagher.

She also tries to suck up to Gliese and fails completely.

BACK AGAIN ▹ AKA more downtime.
Fiona has a close encounter with a vampire while taking a morning smoke break, gets sassed by a cat, and stalked by a crazy person. At this rate, she won't have to use the free square on her alien bingo card. She volunteers to learn various shit, with the intention of becoming more useful to the CDC, and in the continued interest of not getting herself killed. In the midst of this, she finds herself curious about Bahari.

After harranging Martin about being a fucking dragon, she checks back in with Reiner and Gliese on the issue of public safety.

■ ACTIVITY SUMMARY: Despite not having been here for very long at all, Fiona is doing her best to adapt to the incredibly weird situation she's landed herself in. Since providing for her siblings is her major motivator, and the CDC has promised to do that, she's trying to be an asset to their organization. At the moment, this means getting her bearings, becoming comfortable with alien life (which she thought she was, but apparently they don't mean 'your coworker who doesn't have a green card, don't tell anyone' when they use that word anymore), and learning how to use a gun. Help in this area from an extremely unexpected source in the form of a robot in disguise, who proved that no matter how weird aliens will be in the future, they could always be an undercover U-haul. Garrus has also been helping, albeit in a far more expected, on-request basis. He has yet to turn into a car.

■ ACTIVITY SUMMARY: Fiona's current goal is to climate herself to her new environment as best as possible, as to become the best lil' recruit she possibly can and prove herself useful and necessary within the hierarchy of the CDC. She's mostly exemplified this by trying to learn as many new skills as possible. From the necessary, like nagging Adrien about proper medical procedure, to slightly more inane concerns, like bugging Sturmhond about making bullets or grilling Anders about how Bahari work, Fiona has been consistently paranoid that, for lack of a better term, there's going to be a test later. Sunce Fiona doesn't ever, ever want to be out of her depth again, she's sure got a lot of studying to do. So far, though, her concerns have paid off-- she did pretty well during Blue Team's construct-a-bomb assignment, to the point that sempai Obi-Wan noticed her said she was 'a natural'. Fiona is pretty sure he's bullshitting her, but she'll take what compliments she can get, man. She could use the ego boost.

■ ACTIVITY SUMMARY: Fiona was a very good girl this month! No, uh. In keeping with her general MO of trying to be useful, she ran headfirst into the party crisis on infinite Lusanias to try to see if her efforts have been working so far. She did better than she was expecting, managing to hold her own in many stressful situations and deliver supplies as needed. Of course, no one's perfect, and Fiona did occasionally fuck up. Most memorably, she managed to inspire Deadpool shoot himself in the head during the early stages of their conversation. Later, after returning to Ajna, Fiona got a gift from Saint Dagger, which inspired her to poll the audience and try to figure out how common candid photos are. She's trying to get a feel for how powerful the CDC is, but trying to do it as low-key and politely as possible; she's not infiltrating so much as trying to keep her head down. As far as she's concerned, no attention is better than bad attention.

■ ACTIVITY SUMMARY: This month was a bit less... thematically cohesive than previous months were for Fiona, but if it had any theme, it was applying all the knowledge and training in (semi) real time. Fiona talked shop with her personal training heroes (Garrus and Adrien), and even shot a landshark. She's starting to get a better grasp on the situation she's landed herself in, beyond 'how can I begin to meet it', she's starting to think about 'what do I do when I've met it'. She even discusses this head-on with Garrus at Space Prom. Fiona is, essentially, settling in; she's even found herself in environments with which she feels comfortable. She doesn't need training or practice with parties, and the entire event was a huge release for her, improving her mood hugely. Too bad the whole being killed by Corvo thing is going to tank it again. Death is such a bummer.

■ ACTIVITY SUMMARY: The last few days sure have been zany! This activity period, if anything, has the theme of Fiona realizing what, precisely, she's willing to do for the CDC (and, by extension, her family). The answer remains 'everything'. She's killed shai-- which she considers, regardless of the truth of the matter, sentient living things (this is based entirely off a gut hunch that stems mostly from finally really realizing the other aliens she's encountered are, well, people)-- and acted as a field medic to children in a warzone. Be it joking with Dave while the battle rages around them, or talking to Pilot about philosophy, Fiona is doing things she never thought she would, or could, allow herself to see or manage. Time will tell how she chooses to come to terms with that.

■ ACTIVITY SUMMARY: This month didn't really have a focused whole for Fiona, but it did have a pretty straight-forward theme, and that theme is Trying To Deal With Things By Not Talking About Them. Things, in this case, meaning the incredibly stressful conclusion to Mission Ajna, her disappointing assessment, and the CDC's general policies. Coping, for Fiona, of course, that means a lot of emotional denial and self-blame, because that's how she deals with stress and disappointment, eyyy! You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it take therapy.

Anyway, She started by settling in on the Neheda and trying to get an eye for the life there. She took her assessment and passed well enough by her standards, though she found the entire experience a painful exercise in humiliation-- much like dying on Ajna. But that's life, and she's bound and determined to take her lumps. Of course, afterward, shit hit the fan in a spectacular fashion, with Fiona's oldest friend on the crew getting his ass murdered for minor mutiny. Fiona doesn't know all the details, and that almost makes it worse. She blames herself-- Optimus has had conversations with her before where he expressed discontent, and she mostly told him to suck it up, but she obviously couldn't this time. Why didn't they do that this time? Why didn't she see the signs? Is it her fault? (It's probably her fault.)

After that, Fiona aggressively didn't think about it. Lucky her, the CDC provided loads of distractions in the form of vacation time, and Fiona happily played bread and circuses on Selena VII. Realizing she didn't have anything to remember Optimus by, she bought a camera and tried to take pictures of everyone she knew, whether they liked it or not. Along the way, she smuggled a cat through a museum, because that will look great on her resume.

Ultimately, to Fiona, this month was about closure and failing to find it. She's still trying (very hard) to make herself useful to the CDC, even if her initial enthusiasm has worn off in the face of so much disappointment and humiliation. Still, that just motivates her further, perhaps with less genuine joy, but with no lack of determination. She's going to make this work, because it all has to be worth it some day, right?
